Initiation: submission containment liberation

Change requires transition that is expressed in the various archetypes of initiation described by Jung as submission, containment and liberation. They all share elements of self-surrender (submission), and elements of secrecy and withdrawal based upon some sort of death (containment). This ritual has a sorrow about it that is also a kind of joy - an inward acknowledgement that a type of dying also leads to a new life (liberation).
